Carleton University has announced the creation of a business development role with the mandate to advance key industry-academia research partnerships. The position is part of a strategic partnership between Carleton and Mitacs, a national training and research organization.

Rebecca Neu will focus her efforts on building partnerships for Carleton researchers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and SSH (Social Science and Humanities) fields. She will work in conjunction with 1125@Carleton, a collaborative and innovative workspace that mobilizes knowledge to solve real-world problems at local and global levels. Neu holds a master’s of business administration (International Business) from Carleton’s Sprott School of Business, as well as a PhD in synthetic inorganic chemistry from the University of Toronto.

“The new Business Development Specialist will play a critical role in identifying and matching industry research and development needs to researchers at Carleton,” said Mary Herbert-Copley, Executive Director of 1125@Carleton. “The establishment of this role continues Carleton’s tradition of enabling successful research collaborations.”

Carleton is among four Canadian universities that are collaborating with Mitacs to establish business development positions, including the University of British Columbia – Okanagan, the University of Calgary and Western University.

“These partnerships represent opportunities for recent graduates to further develop and advance their skills by connecting top-level research with private-sector needs” said Eric Bosco, Chief Business Development Officer for Mitacs. “We are pleased to launch these partnerships with four of our key university partners as we work together towards our shared vision of a globally-competitive workforce.”
