Carleton University will host What’s New about New Media? The Technology of Protest Past and Present. This two-day conference, taking place on April 23 and 24, 2015 will draw together students, artists, activists and professors from North America, Europe and South-East Asia to think about ways social media facilitates protest action, enabling new voices for change.

Carleton’s Merlyna Lim, Canada Research Chair in Digital Media and Global Network Society and associate professor of Communication Studies, will deliver the keynote address entitled Tweet to the Air, Feet to the Square: The Intertwining of Protest and Technology Across Space and Time. Local artist-activist Marc Adornato will also be featured as he discusses his own performance protest piece created last summer entitled #MYPROTEST.
