Carleton physicist David Sinclair has been awarded an honorary degree by Queen’s University. The ceremony took place during the school’s Convocation ceremonies in Kingston, where Sinclair was given a Doctor of Laws.

Sinclair is one of the founders of SNOLAB, an underground research laboratory that attempts to unravel the secrets of the universe. He played an instrumental role in the SNO experiment, which was the precursor to the full-scale facility currently operating in Sudbury, Ont. The success of SNO confirmed to the world that neutrinos have mass, and many scientific advances have been based on this discovery. Both Carleton University and Queen’s University played key roles in both projects.

“I was honoured last year when my daughter published her first book,” said Sinclair in his address to the students. “In the dedication, she wrote: ‘To my father who taught me to always find work that seemed like play.’ I cannot think of better advice to all of you embarking on your careers.”
