Carleton University has become a member institution in the Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI).

“Joining organizations like CASRAI enables us to better plan our research information for today and for the future,” said Sandra Crocker, associate vice-president for research planning and operations. “Carleton is committed to the highest levels of accountability – and to ensure this we have systems that speak to each other and that enable robust reporting while reducing the administrative burden on our faculty. Harmonization and standardization of our research information is critical.”

Carleton’s participation in CASRAI continues a trend of developing normalization standards for research data and in uniting research institutions with other organizations that are involved in the administration of these data systems.

“CASRAI, through its consultative process with funders and universities, has the lead nationally and internationally in setting these data standards,” said Crocker. “As a university, we need to be on the leading edge of adopting them.”

Carleton’s membership contributes to CASRAI’s goal of achieving seamless interoperability of research information by increasing the numbers and scope of participating institutions committed to advancing integrated, standardized data systems.

Carleton’s membership will “deepen the diversity of our university participation,” said David Baker, executive director of CASRAI. “We’re certainly glad to have them on board and we look forward to their inclusion in CASRAI’s initiatives.”
