Carleton University’s Piotr Dutkiewicz has been honoured by the Canadian ambassador to the Russian Federation for distinguished and sustained contributions to Canada-Russia relations. His photo will now be placed on a wall of honour in the main public reception room of the Canadian Embassy in Moscow.

Ambassador John Sloan presented Prof. Dutkiewicz with the award at an embassy ceremony acknowledging his exceptional qualities as a world-class resource on Russia and Canada-Russia relations.  It was especially fitting that among those present were two of the embassy political section’s current officers, Margaret Watts and Svitozar Omelko both of whom are former students of his.

“I am pleased to see that Professor Dutkiewicz’s sustained efforts to improve our understanding of Canada-Russia relations have been recognized,” said André Plourde, dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs.  “Piotr has built bridges with colleagues and organizations in Russia that have led to the development of joint research projects and has created opportunities for Carleton students. We are very fortunate to have Piotr as part of our Carleton family.”

“This award is particularly important to me as it was presented to me by Canadian diplomatic professionals who are in a good position to assess what I have been working on over the last 22 years in Russia,” said Dutkiewicz. “In this time, I have worked on over 15 high-profile, socially-important projects in Russia very closely with Russian academics and officials as well as the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).”
