A Carleton University Civil Engineering design project group, supervised by Ata Khan, professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, won the inaugural National CSCE Capstone Design Project Competition, held at the CSCE Annual Conference in Montreal. The project group, made up of Civil Engineering students Nyishi Muchima, Ben Pascolo-Neveu, Gosego Motukwa, Naser Snobar, Pubudu Herath and Saeid Matin, won with the project entitled Carling Avenue Light Rail Transit (CLRT). Four of the students gained relevant experience with the Ottawa Light Rail Office through Carleton’s co-op program.
“Carleton continues to produce some of the best young engineering minds in Canada,” said Khan. “The success our team achieved at this national competition is further evidence of the talent and dedication demonstrated by our students.”
Fourteen universities across the country entered the Capstone Design Project Competition, one team per university. Three judges evaluated project reports, posters, presentations and the quality of responses to evaluator questions.
“It was an incredible experience for me to help represent our winning group in a national design competition, “ said Pascolo-Neveu. “We wouldn’t have been successful without the consistent hard work and dedication of all six team members and Prof. Khan’s support.”
