Carleton is inviting proposals for submissions to the inaugural International Summit on Accessibility.

Carleton, with support from the Province of Ontario and the City of Ottawa, is holding a three-day International Summit on Accessibility in July 2014 at the Ottawa Convention Centre.

With the theme of Making it Happen – From Intention to Action, the summit is the first international conference promoting access and inclusion for persons with disabilities in all aspects of life. The theme embraces the positive progress made in creating accessible and inclusive communities and brings together diverse leadership to share achievement and create action. The summit will address issues of accessibility in education, communication and recreation, mobility health and the physical environment, and will have a special emphasis on employment. The streams within the summit are:

  1. Innovation: Highlighting and celebrating a world of best practices and innovative approaches to accessibility.
  2. Technology: The promises and pitfalls of technology in contributing to accessibility for persons with disabilities in the home environment and beyond.
  3. Accessible Communities: A focus on the built environment and the concepts and collaborations needed to create accessible communities.
  4. Employment and other related topics.

Presenters may choose from a variety of session options, including a poster presentation. The deadline to submit is November 22, 2013. Committees of experts and leaders in the theme areas will review all proposals for presentations and posters. Authors of successful presentations and posters will be notified by February 7, 2014.
