Carleton University is pleased to announce that renowned theoretical physicist and science alumnus, Lawrence Krauss, BSc/77, is returning to the university to give the 2013 Discovery Lecture. Dr. Krauss’s lecture is entitled The Universe from Nothing.

This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and registration is required here. Media are invited to attend.

When: Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at 7 p.m.

Where: Kailash Mital Theatre, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa

The question, “Why is there something rather than nothing?” has been asked for millennia. Taking a trip back to the beginning of the beginning and the end of the end, and reviewing the remarkable developments in cosmology and particle physics over the past 40 years, Krauss will explore the discoveries that have revolutionized our understanding of both nothing and something. It has become clear that not only can the universe naturally arise from nothing, without supernatural shenanigans, but that it probably did.

This event is part of Carleton’s inaugural Throwback 2013 homecoming, taking place from Sept. 16 until Sept. 22. Throwback will give Carleton alumni and supporters a chance to revisit their university days while rallying behind Carleton’s recently revived football team.
