As the Sochi Olympics approach, questions remain as to whether the mild climate of the area will be able to accommodate snow-intensive sports like skiing and snowboarding. Back home in Canada, Carleton’s Stephan Gruber will help paint a picture of the future of winter sports when he participates in a panel on the future of snow and skiing in a warming world on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.

Gruber will be joined on the panel by Olympians Sara Renner and Patrick Biggs. The panel will also include Dirk Van Wijk, chief of grooming during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics; Renée Bellehumeur, senior manager of Visitors Services and Operations at Gatineau Park; and Bob Suderman, co-owner of the Camp Fortune ski resort.

When: Wednesday Feb. 5, 2014 from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Where: The Canada Aviation and Space Museum, 11 Aviation Pkwy, Ottawa

This event is free and open to the public, though registration is required here. The panel is being hosted by Ecology Ottawa.
