On March 18, 2014, Carleton will hold a lecture on the future of sustainable energy in Canada featuring Electrovaya CEO Sankar Das Gupta. The Carleton Sustainable Energy Lecture Series is designed to raise awareness about current topics and issues associated with the transition to a sustainable energy future.

Das Gupta will speak about electrical energy storage, an emerging sector that analysts expect to evolve rapidly. Electricity is difficult to store, creating problems of demand and supply. Das Gupta will discuss the technological challenges, demand and policy initiatives in this sector while detailing Electrovaya’s efforts to make it electricity storage a reality.

This event is free and open to the public. Media are invited to attend.

This lecture series is organized by the Carleton Research Unit in Science, Innovation and the Environment (CRUISE) and the Carleton Sustainable Energy Research Centre (CSERC).

About Sankar Das Gupta:
Sankar Das Gupta is chairman and CEO of Electrovaya and an internationally recognized scientist in electrochemistry, material science and alternative energy. He received his doctorate from Imperial College, London and is a graduate of Presidency College, Calcutta. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto.

Das Gupta has received many awards and more than 50 U.S. patents. He is an active member of many committees including the White House Committee on Energy & Environment (chaired by U.S. Vice-President Al Gore). He also is a founding charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs-Toronto and has lectured at conferences and universities throughout Asia, Europe and North America. He is an active participant in the movement to reduce the impact of climate change.
