Media are invited to attend Carleton’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition encore on Friday, March 13, 2015. The competition challenges grad students to communicate the key concepts of their research in a compelling presentation of three minutes or less. This is an encore event featuring the top three presenters from Carleton’s recent 3MT final.

Media are invited to attend. The speakers will be available for interviews about their research after the presentations.

When: Friday, March 13, 2015 at 12 p.m.

Where: Room 252 MacOdrum Library, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa

The speakers include:

Ann Morneau – Knitting Takes Balls
Morneau, an avid knitter, decided to pursue research on men who knit after reading an article about men’s knitting being “the new yoga.” She interviewed 15 men about their experiences with knitting and has a lot to say about men who engage in a stereotypically “female” activity.

Sahil Dhawan – Biofiltration: A Sustainable Water Treatment Technology
Dhawan’s research attempts to find sustainable and economical ways to solve the world’s water problems using biofiltration, a method that replaces chemical treatment with safe bacterial methods.

Janna Klostermann Cubicles for Artists
Klosterman’s research examines pressures on artists to write about their work in order to appease funding bodies, and ultimately concludes that artists should be free to create art for art’s sake.
