Three nominees from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Carleton University have won four prestigious Canadian Museums Association (CMA) awards. The awards were presented during a ceremony on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS, and are held in conjunction with the CMA’s 2016 National Conference.

Carleton’s award winners are:

Hannah Keating – Graduate student in Art History
Keating received the Dr. Shirley L. Thomson Award for Young Curators, which will enable her to take up an internship in historical Canadian Art at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Named in honour of Dr. Thomson, a former director of the National Gallery of Canada, the award provides young graduates with the opportunity to experience high quality, enhanced learning experiences.

Brian Foss – Director of the School for Studies in Art and Culture and Professor of Art History
Foss and Jacques Des Rochers, curator of Quebec and Canadian Art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, received the Award of Outstanding Achievement in Exhibitions – Art for their co-curated exhibition 1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Group, currently on view at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Carleton University Art Gallery (CUAG):
CUAG together with Gallery 101 and the Walking With Our Sisters Ottawa and National Committees, received the Award of Outstanding Achievement in Exhibitions – Cultural Heritage for Walking With Our Sisters Ottawa, a commemorative installation presented at CUAG in the fall of 2015 to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

Ten Awards of Outstanding Achievement were given out in Halifax. From these ten,Walking With Our Sisters Ottawa was chosen to receive a second, newly-created honour, the Award for Outstanding Achievement for best exhibition of the year.
