For more information, see the definitions for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a10\">formal partnership<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a13\">partner organization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The quality of training, mentoring and employability plans for students and emerging scholars will be evaluated as an important part of the proposed initiative.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/policies-politiques\/effective_research_training-formation_en_recherche_efficace-eng.aspx\">SSHRC\u2019s Guidelines for Effective Research Training<\/a>&nbsp;explain how students and emerging scholars can meaningfully participate in proposed initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The intellectual leadership and governance for the creation of a formal partnership can come from the research community and\/or from partner organizations from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. However, only an institution that meets the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/institutional_eligibility-admissibilite_etablissements-eng.aspx\">institutional eligibility requirements&nbsp;<\/a>can administer the grant funding, once awarded. For more information, see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/partnership_development_grants-subventions_partenariat_developpement-eng.aspx#4\">Eligibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SSHRC invites&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a1\">applicants<\/a>&nbsp;and their partner organizations who wish to propose formal disciplinary, interdisciplinary, interinstitutional, international and\/or cross-sector partnership arrangements to apply for support through this funding opportunity. Funds are available to support a variety of formal partnership development initiatives in all of the disciplines and themes that meet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/apply-demande\/background-renseignements\/selecting_agency-choisir_organisme_subventionnaire-eng.aspx#af2\">SSHRC\u2019s subject matter eligibility guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"eligibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"subject-matter\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Subject matter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most SSHRC funding is awarded through open competitions. Proposals can involve any disciplines, thematic areas, approaches or subject areas eligible for SSHRC funding. See&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/apply-demande\/background-renseignements\/selecting_agency-choisir_organisme_subventionnaire-eng.aspx\">subject matter eligibility<\/a>&nbsp;for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects whose primary objective is curriculum development are not eligible for funding under this funding opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"applicants\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applicants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications can be submitted by a team of researchers (consisting of one&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a1\">applicant<\/a>&nbsp;\/ project director and one or more&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a4\">co-applicants<\/a>&nbsp;and \/ or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a30\">co-directors<\/a>&nbsp;and\/or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a5\">collaborators<\/a>). The applicant \/ project director prepares the application on behalf of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a13\">partner organizations<\/a>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a10\">formal partnership<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants (except postdoctoral researchers and students) must be affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution that holds&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/institutional_eligibility-admissibilite_etablissements-eng.aspx\">institutional eligibility<\/a>&nbsp;at the time of application. Researchers who maintain an affiliation with a Canadian postsecondary institution, but whose primary affiliation is with a non-Canadian postsecondary institution, are not eligible for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a1\">applicant<\/a>&nbsp;status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants who have received a SSHRC grant of any type but have failed to submit an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/using-utiliser\/achievement-realisation\/reports-rapports-eng.aspx\">achievement report<\/a>&nbsp;by the deadline specified in their Notice of Award are not eligible to apply for another SSHRC grant until they have submitted the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Postdoctoral researchers<\/strong>&nbsp;are eligible to be applicants if they have formally established an affiliation with an eligible institution within five months of the grant start date, and maintain such an affiliation for the duration of the grant period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students<\/strong>&nbsp;enrolled in a program of study are not eligible to apply. However, a PhD candidate is eligible to apply if they:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>will have met all requirements for the PhD before the grant is awarded, including all course work and successful defense of their dissertation; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>establish a formal affiliation with an eligible institution within five months of the grant start date, and maintain such an affiliation for the duration of the grant period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants who are postdoctoral researchers or students, and who do not have an affiliation at the time of the grant application, are asked to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/partnership_development_grants-subventions_partenariat_developpement-eng.aspx#8\">communicate with SSHRC<\/a>&nbsp;at least five&nbsp;business days before the deadline to confirm how to forward their application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Federal scientists<\/strong>&nbsp;who are affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution must demonstrate that their proposed research or research-related activity is not related to either the mandate of their employer or the normal duties for which they receive payment from that employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the proposal falls within the mandate of the federal government and the research or research-related activity is performed in government facilities, funding can only be allocated for student salaries, stipends and travel costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"funding-available\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Funding Available<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Partnership Development Grants are valued at $75,000 to $200,000 over 1-3 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"internal-contacts\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internal Contacts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss this funding opportunity by emailing their <a href=\"https:\/\/research.carleton.ca\/coris\/about-us\/contact\/\">Research Facilitator<\/a> as soon as possible.
