These events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage with participants on research issues of value to them. Events and outreach activities funded by a Connection Grant can often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects.<\/p>\n<p>Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes, or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>disciplinary and\/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the social sciences and humanities;<\/li>\n<li>scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;<\/li>\n<li>intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the social sciences and humanities and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and\/or not-for-profit sectors; and\/or<\/li>\n<li>international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges with researchers, students and non-academic partners from other countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Only a Canadian institution that holds&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/institutional_eligibility-admissibilite_etablissements-eng.aspx\">institutional eligibility<\/a>&nbsp;can administer funds. However, the intellectual leadership and governance for Connection Grant activities can come from within the research community and\/or from within the public, private and\/or not-for-profit sectors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"eligibility\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"applicants\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applicants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications can be submitted by institutions or by individual applicants and teams (consisting of one&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a1\">applicant<\/a>&nbsp;or project director and one or more&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a4\">co-applicants<\/a>&nbsp;and\/or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a5\">collaborators<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Institutional Connection Grant&nbsp;<\/strong>applications must be submitted by a Canadian institution that holds&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/list_eligible_institutions-liste_etablissements-admissibles-eng.aspx\">institutional eligibility<\/a>&nbsp;to conduct an event, outreach activity or a combination of the two that allows the institution to achieve strategic objectives relevant to its mission and mandate. The project director must be affiliated with the host institution (the applicant), prepare the application on behalf of the host institution and be responsible for the overall leadership of the project. The term \u201cinstitution\u201d from this point on in this description refers to both postsecondary institutions and not\u2011for\u2011profit organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Individual Connection Grant<\/strong>&nbsp;applicants (except postdoctoral researchers) must be affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution that holds&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/list_eligible_institutions-liste_etablissements-admissibles-eng.aspx\">institutional eligibility<\/a>&nbsp;at the time of application. Applicants conduct an event, outreach activity or a combination of the two that primarily falls in their areas of expertise and will allow them to make a significant contribution to their field of research. In the case of a team approach, all team members must meet the eligibility criteria specific to their role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See the section below on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/connection_grants-subventions_connexion-eng.aspx#4c\">Institutions<\/a>&nbsp;for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers who maintain an affiliation with a Canadian postsecondary institution, but whose primary affiliation is with a non-Canadian postsecondary institution, are not eligible for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/programs-programmes\/definitions-eng.aspx#a1\">applicant or project director<\/a>&nbsp;status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants or project directors who have received a SSHRC grant of any type but have failed to submit an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/funding-financement\/using-utiliser\/achievement-realisation\/reports-rapports-eng.aspx\">achievement report<\/a>&nbsp;by the deadline specified in their notice of award are not eligible to apply for another SSHRC grant until they have submitted the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Postdoctoral researchers<\/strong>&nbsp;are eligible to be applicants or project directors if they have formally established an affiliation with an institution that holds&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/institutional_eligibility-admissibilite_etablissements-eng.aspx\">institutional eligibility<\/a>&nbsp;within three months of the grant start date, and maintain such an affiliation for the duration of the grant period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students&nbsp;<\/strong>enrolled in a program of study are not eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connection Grant proposals led by students can be submitted, provided the proposals involve both students and researchers and are submitted on behalf of the student by a faculty member at an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/about-au_sujet\/policies-politiques\/statements-enonces\/list_eligible_institutions-liste_etablissements-admissibles-eng.aspx\">eligible Canadian postsecondary institution<\/a>. Students can be collaborators, but not co-applicants.
