Funding Value and Duration<\/h2>\n

The Budget Review Committee (BRC) is Heart & Stroke\u2019s mechanism for ensuring informed budget
\nreview of all potentially funded Grant-in-Aid (GIA) projects. The BRC provides support and advice on
\nbudgetary items during the budget review process and for the duration of Heart & Stroke funding (as
\nnecessary).<\/p>\n

Budget Request:<\/strong> Heart & Stroke will not approve budgets exceeding $400K for a 4-year term,
\n$300K for a 3-year term, $200k for a 2-year term or $100K for a 1-year term. For requested terms of
\ngreater than 1 year there is not an annual cap on requests. However, please be advised that budget
\nrequest , including term, must be fully justified or reductions may be applied in the final allocation of
\nthe award.<\/p>\n

Overview<\/h2>\n

The Heart & Stroke Grant-in-Aid (GIA) program provides operating funds to support important,
\npertinent, novel research in the areas of heart disease and\/or stroke. GIA funding promotes research
\ndiscovery, exploration and innovation across all health research themes. Knowledge gained from
\nscientific findings contributes to the cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health of Canadians through
\nprevention, treatment, and recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Principal Investigators (and Co-PIs) must have a full-time academic or faculty appointment (i.e., at
\nminimum, at the Assistant or Clinical Assistant Professor level) in Canada at the time the application
\nis submitted. Applicants holding lecturer\/clinical scholar of similar university appointments that are of
\nlower tier than Assistant Professor appointments are not eligible to apply as PI and co-PI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The date of first faculty appointment will be based on the date listed in the Common CV under
\nEmployment. Please ensure your Common CV is updated and correctly identifies a valid
\nappointment including that it is full-time under the employment section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For any application with a PI and co-PI, should the PI be deemed ineligible the entire application will
\nbe withdrawn from the competition. There will be no appeal process for applications deemed
\nineligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applicants holding adjunct appointments at an academic institution must submit a letter from their
\ndean\/chair\/division director to clarify that through their specific appointment they are accorded
\nprotected time for research. The letter is required to quantify the amount of protected time available,
\ntheir access to research infrastructure and their access to other resources necessary to conduct the
\nproposed research study. Failure to include this explanatory letter with all required components will
\nresult in withdrawal of the application (without appeal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
