The aim of these partnerships is to advance co-produced research and co-produced knowledge mobilization activities, leading to more relevant and applicable knowledge that is positioned for implementation and impact.<\/p>\n<h2>Funding Value and Duration<\/h2>\n<p>The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $5,250,000, enough to fund approximately 35 grants. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. Up to $125,000 is available per grant for up to one year, and Applicants may request an additional $25,000 (with justification) to ensure the meaningful and equitable involvement of communities or populations that require additional resources to participate in co-produced activities (such as rural, northern, youth, populations historically underrepresented within research).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Eligibility Criteria<\/h2>\n<p>For an application to be eligible, all the requirements stated below must be met:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"lst-spcd\">\n<li>The Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) must be:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/34190.html#r6\">independent researcher<\/a>&nbsp;or a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/34190.html#k4\">knowledge user<\/a>&nbsp;affiliated with a Canadian postsecondary institution and\/or its affiliated institutions (including hospitals, research institutes and other non-profit organizations with a mandate for health research and\/or knowledge mobilization).<br>\nOR<\/li>\n<li>an individual affiliated with an Indigenous non-governmental organization in Canada with a research and\/or knowledge mobilization mandate.<br>\nOR<\/li>\n<li>an Indigenous non-governmental organization in Canada with a research and\/or knowledge mobilization mandate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The NPA must have their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/51197.html\">substantive role in Canada<\/a>&nbsp;for the duration of the requested grant term.<\/li>\n<li>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/34190.html#i7\">Institution Paid<\/a>&nbsp;receives and administers the funds on behalf of the NPA and therefore must be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/50805.html#g-4\">authorized by CIHR<\/a>&nbsp;before the funds can be released.If the Institution Paid is not on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/36374.html\">List of CIHR Eligible Institutions<\/a>, they are encouraged to contact the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/9833.html\">Contact Centre<\/a>, in advance, to enquire about the authorization process and timelines.<\/li>\n<li>Applications must be developed in partnership amongst researchers, knowledge users,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchnet-recherchenet.ca\/rnr16\/vwOpprtntyDtls.do?prog=4385&amp;view=currentOpps&amp;org=CIHR&amp;type=EXACT&amp;resultCount=25&amp;sort=program&amp;all=1&amp;masterList=true&amp;language=E#moreinformation\">Knowledge Holders<\/a>, and\/or health or community organizations, and require co-leadership and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchnet-recherchenet.ca\/rnr16\/vwOpprtntyDtls.do?prog=4385&amp;view=currentOpps&amp;org=CIHR&amp;type=EXACT&amp;resultCount=25&amp;sort=program&amp;all=1&amp;masterList=true&amp;language=E#moreinformation\">co-production<\/a>&nbsp;approaches.<\/li>\n<li>As a result, the team must be co-led by:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>A minimum of one&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/34190.html#r6\">independent researcher<\/a>&nbsp;(as either the NPA or a Principal Applicant &#8211; PA);<br>\nAND<\/li>\n<li>A minimum of one&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/34190.html#k4\">knowledge user<\/a>&nbsp;(as either the NPA or a Principal Knowledge User* &#8211; PKU).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must include a Project Coordinator, (as either a Co-Applicant or a KU) who will support meaningful engagement as part of co-produced activities. This role cannot overlap with the roles above.<\/li>\n<li>For applications involving research with First Nations, Inuit or M\u00e9tis Peoples, at least one member of the research team in a principal role (i.e., NPA, PKU* or PA) must self-identify as First Nations, Inuit or M\u00e9tis and\/or provide evidence of meaningful and culturally safe involvement with Indigenous Peoples (see&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchnet-recherchenet.ca\/rnr16\/vwOpprtntyDtls.do?prog=4385&amp;view=currentOpps&amp;org=CIHR&amp;type=EXACT&amp;resultCount=25&amp;sort=program&amp;all=1&amp;masterList=true&amp;language=E#howtoapply\">How to Apply<\/a>&nbsp;section).<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"change\">An individual or an organization&nbsp;<strong>cannot submit more than one application as the Nominated Principal Applicant<\/strong>. If the Nominated Principal Applicant submits more than one application, CIHR will automatically withdraw the last application(s) submitted based on the timestamp of submission.<\/span>&nbsp;<strong>(Updated: 2025-08-27)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>* In relation to CIHR&#8217;s applicant categories,&nbsp;<strong>Principal Knowledge Users<\/strong>&nbsp;are responsible for leading the intellectual direction of proposed activities, whereas&nbsp;<strong>Knowledge Users<\/strong>&nbsp;actively participate in proposed activities but not to direct them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;Participants, including Elders and\/or First Nations, Inuit or M\u00e9tis Peoples Knowledge Holders, may participate on an application in a Collaborator role without the need to secure a CIHR PIN.
