Operational maintenance of research infrastructure requires reinvestment on a significant scale. These indirect costs must be included in budget requests to external sponsors of research. Indirect costs support many institutional functions of the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please click<a href=\"https:\/\/research.carleton.ca\/ips\/indirect-costs-of-research\/\"> here<\/a> for more information on the indirect costs of research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Intellectual Property<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inventions and other intellectual property developed by Carleton University researchers are owned by the Inventors. Carleton researchers may request support from the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.carleton.ca\/ips\/innovation-transfer\/\">Carleton Innovation Transfer Office<\/a> for patent applications or other IP protection (trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) by filing an <a href=\"https:\/\/research.carleton.ca\/ips\/disclosure-forms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">intellectual property disclosure form<\/a> and executing a Revenue Sharing-Assignment agreement with Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please refer to Article 14: Innovation, Transfer, Patents And Copyright in the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/deputyprovost\/wp-content\/uploads\/CU-CUASA-2021-2024-Collective-Agreement-WEB.pdf\">CUASA and Carleton University Collective Agreement<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Copyright Compliance<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University is committed to compliance in all copyright matters. Noncompliance is a violation of the Canadian Copyright Act. The <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/researchethics\/\">Office of Research Ethics<\/a> offers administrative support to the Carleton University\u2019s Research Ethics Boards (CUREB), works with researchers to ensure their research projects respect and comply with all applicable policies and guidelines. On behalf of the REB\u2019s the office manages the protocol life-cycle, including protocol <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/researchethics\/submit-an-application\/\">submission<\/a>, approval and monitoring for the research involving human participants at the university and its affiliates. All research involving humans conducted by faculty, staff or students at Carleton University must be approved by a CUREB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Animal Ethics <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University is committed to ensuring that the use of animals in research conforms to the most rigorous ethics standards while actively supporting cutting edge science. In order to use animals for research at Carleton you must have a Animal Use Protocol in place that has been approved by the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/animalethics\/animal-ethics\/animal-care-committee\/\">Animal Care Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Biohazardous Materials<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biohazardous materials are considered to be any organism or its toxic metabolites believed to be potentially harmful to humans, animals, or plants (e.g., viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites). Any research conducted at Carleton University or undertaken by persons connected to the University, involving biohazardous materials, must be reviewed and approved by the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/animalethics\/biohazards\/biohazards-committee\/\">Biohazards Committee<\/a> prior to the commencement of any research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Academic Misconduct in Research<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical and responsible conduct in carrying out its prime mission of teaching and research.
