Joint Mitacs–NSERC – Program Update
Mitacs and NSERC have signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 2025–2026, which brings changes to the joint application process, funding eligibility, and submission requirements. Here’s a breakdown of what’s changing and how it may affect your planning.
Transition Period – Old Application Process
- Joint Mitacs–NSERC applications using the current format can still be submitted until May 30, 2025.
- If an application under the old method is declined after May 30, it must be resubmitted under:
- The new joint & streamlined application process (see below), or
- As a standalone Mitacs Accelerate.
New Joint Application Process for 2025-2026 submissions (Effective April 16, 2025)
- Part 1: Submitted with the NSERC application. It outlines the connection to the NSERC project, describes the Mitacs internship goals, and includes an intern recruitment plan.
- Part 2: Submitted only after Part 1 approval. This form is used to name interns and activate the internship units for the project.
Key Deadlines
- New: Applications are currently being accepted with a rolling deadline. Following confirmation from ISED and in recognition of the utility of the NSERC Alliance–Mitacs Accelerate grants, applicants can continue to leverage partner cash contributions for funding from both organizations through a streamlined application process beyond the 2025–26 fiscal year.
