In his new role with the Office of the Vice-President (Research, Innovation and International) (OVPRII), Jit will draw on his extensive experience with external funding agencies and scholarly organizations to help advance Carleton’s research enterprise.

Jit is a Chancellor’s Professor in the School of Computer Science. He earned his BMath and MMath from the University of Waterloo and his PhD in Computer Science from McGill University, where he received the D.W. Ambridge Award for best PhD thesis.
His research interests include computational geometry, graph theory, data structures, and the design and analysis of algorithms.
Since joining Carleton, Jit has held numerous leadership positions, including Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Computer Science, Graduate Director of the School of Computer Science and Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies) in the Faculty of Science. Most recently, he served as Associate Dean (Research and International) in the Faculty of Science.
“I am honoured to serve as Associate Vice-President (Research) and look forward to contributing to Carleton to the best of my abilities,” said Jit. “Together with the team in OVPRII, I plan to build on our strong research foundation and support the growth and success of our researchers and their research as we prepare to face the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.”
As we welcome Jit to this role, we also wish to recognize and thank Sandra Crocker for her many years of dedicated service as Associate Vice-President (Strategic Initiatives and Operations).

Sandra joined Carleton in 2011 as the inaugural Associate Vice-President and has since played a central role in more than doubling the university’s externally sponsored research.
Her leadership in initiatives such as developing a strategic, campus-wide approach to partnerships, creating the collaborative research space at ARISE, establishing Carleton’s commercialization framework and building some of our largest university–industry collaborations has left a lasting impact on how Carleton engages externally.
Sandra will be greatly missed, not only for her vision and accomplishments, but also for her trademark efficiency in running meetings, her exceptional organizational skills and her mentorship fostering a strong team of professionals, which has set a high standard for us all.
Please join us in extending our appreciation to Sandra and in wishing her the very best in retirement.
