For outstanding early-stage academic researchers in the natural sciences and engineering to enhance their research capacity so that they can become leaders in their field and inspire others.

Value and Duration

$250,000 over two years.

Eligibility

Candidates must have held an independent academic position for ten years or less as of the year of the current competition. Career interruptions will increase the period of eligibility by two months for every one month of leave. Candidates must also hold an NSERC grant at the time of submission.

Special Requirements

The candidate’s home faculty must approve the teaching release funded through this fellowship.

Institutional Quota

Each institution can submit six nominations.

How to Apply

Internal Process

Fill out the internal registration form.

If the number of interested candidates exceeds the institutional quota, a committee will be struck to rank the candidates and determine which will proceed to the external competition.

External Submission Steps

The Office of the Vice-President (Research, Innovation and International) (OVPRII) coordinates the submission of the nomination package. Each nomination must be signed by the Vice-President (Research and International).

A cuResearch Approval Form is needed prior to submission.
