Cardiac Arrest Research Grants
This bold initiative aims to significantly improve the prediction of cardiac arrest, the survival rates and quality of life for individuals and families affected by cardiac arrest across Canada. It is strategically aligned with the American Heart Association’s (AHA) cardiac arrest funding program to foster cross-border collaboration and amplify the impact of research through coordinated efforts.
Visit the Heart and Stroke Foundation website for more information on the Cardiac Arrest Research Grants.
Overview
The Cardiac Arrest Team Grants will support multidisciplinary research teams across three key areas:
- Optimizing brain recovery: Supporting survivors with evidence-based rehabilitation and recovery strategies that address physical, neurocognitive and/or mental health needs. This includes support for families, caregivers and communities.
- Prediction and early detection: Advancing the ability to predict and detect cardiac arrest in the community or in hospital by deepening our understanding of its causes and biological mechanisms.
- Accelerating response and increasing survival: Developing sustainable, evidence-informed approaches to improve emergency response and survival, both out-of-hospital and in-hospital.
Value and Duration
$5 million over five years.
Eligibility
For an application to be eligible:
- The nominated principal applicant (NPA) and principal applicants (PAs) must be independent researchers at eligible Canadian institutions. Applicants can be an NPA for one research team only; however, they may be involved in different capacities in other research teams.
- The NPA may not change between the registration and the full application.
- The PAs must include early and mid-career researchers. An early-career researcher (ECR) is within the first five years of their first faculty appointment at the Assistant or Clinical Assistant Professor level, or equivalent, at the time of submission. - At the time of the full application deadline, the NPA and PAs must have successfully completed and submitted a Certificate of Completion in at least one CIHR Sex and Gender Training Module. As appropriate, the NPAs, PAs and CC Theme Leads are also encouraged to complete the CIHR Training Module on Research Involving First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples of Canada.
- The host institution/university is the institution or organization that is responsible for receiving and administering the Team Grant on behalf of the recipient.
