Institute Community Support: Travel Awards

Through the Institute Community Support (ICS) Program, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institutes and Initiatives are launching the ICS Travel Awards competition for master’s and doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, early career researchers and knowledge users to present their own research at national and international meetings, workshops or conferences.

Value and Duration

The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $521,000, enough to fund approximately 234 awards. This amount may increase if additional funding partners participate. The value of the ICS Travel Award varies by Institute/Initiative funding pool.

Eligibility

For an application to be eligible, the Nominated Principal Applicant (NPA) must meet the specific requirements of the applicable funding pool.

In addition, the following requirements are applicable to all funding pools:

  1. The Institution Paid must be authorized to administer CIHR funds by the funding start date.
  2. The NPA must be the first author and presenter of the presentation or poster. Note: This is not applicable to knowledge users applying to the Institute of Gender and Health CBRC Summit funding pool or to CRPPHE Stream 2 applicants.
  3. Travel must occur between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027.
  4. Individuals are limited to one CIHR ICS Travel Award application per competition. Each application can only contain one presentation or paper.

Submitting Your Application

  1. Submit an internal Approval Form through our central awards management database cuResearch.
  2. Submit an external application to CIHR by following their submission guidelines.
