Overview
Medical Research Grants assist biomedical scientists of various departments and faculties in universities, hospitals and scientific institutions concerned with medical research. They may be distributed among medical research institutes and universities in Ontario.
Value and Duration
Typically, between $25,000 and $80,000 for one to two years.
Supplemental grants may only be made for equipment essential to the described project where main source funding for equipment is unobtainable. For equipment costing more than $10,000, indicate the use, extent of use, availability of similar equipment and the current operating support.
Eligibility
The Foundation will use the following criteria to assess applications:
- Projects must have scientific merit and be primarily medical in nature.
- New researchers seeking start-up grants receive priority.
- New, innovative projects also receive priority.
- Applications submitted should most suitably fit the institutions’ requirements and the Foundation’s criteria.
- Grants are not made to cover deficits or to supplement a project grant from another granting agency (except for essential equipment).
Institutional Quota
Carleton may submit one application per competition. If required, internal proposals will be adjudicated with input from an internal review committee.
Internal Process
Internal proposals are due by Friday, March 28, 2025 at 12 p.m. with the following elements:
- Up-to-date CVs for the applicant and co-applicants (separate files).
- Name and contact information of applicants, project title and duration, outline of research (two pages), research plan, proposed use of funds and budget (in a single document).
Review the internal proposal instructions for more details.
Internal proposals should be emailed to katie.harriman@carleton.ca.
An internal committee with experience in the Medical Research Grants will review the proposals, providing feedback and a ranking. The highest-ranking proposal is recommended for full submission. The committee may choose to meet to discuss closely ranked proposals. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision no later than April 17, 2025.
