The Fellowship Program recognizes outstanding academic achievements and a promise of future contributions. It is a central tool in the Foundation’s 2025–2028 mission to support academic excellence, societal engagement and increased intellectual outreach.

Value and Duration

Total value of $300,000 per Fellow:

The Foundation nominates up to four Fellows per year for a mandate of three years.

Eligibility

Candidates must hold a full-time tenured appointment at a Canadian university at or near the rank of Full Professor with a national or international reputation.

Candidates’ research must be linked to at least one of the four Foundation themes (Human Rights and Dignity; Responsible Citizenship; Canada and the World; People and their Natural Environment) and must integrate itself in the general field of humanities and social sciences.

Institutional Quota

Carleton can submit three nominations to the Trudeau Foundation. To apply, please submit the following documents to Rachel Barken by September 10, 2025:

If more than three internal applications are submitted, an internal review committee will determine the nominations to submit to the Trudeau Foundation.

Submitting Your Application

  1. Submit an internal Approval Form through our central awards management database cuResearch.
  2. Submit an external application to the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation by following their submission guidelines.
