Trebek Initiative
The Trebek Initiative funds storytellers, educators, conservationists, innovators and researchers who are documenting Canadian Indigenous land, wildlife, water, culture and history. They are interested in:
- Projects that explore unique ecozones in Canada.
- Scientific research on Canadian wildlife, wilderness or water.
- Photography expositions on unique Canadian geographies and communities.
- New tools to create a better understanding of our environment.

Value and Duration
- Maximum of $100K CAD, although project budgets should be submitted in USD to a max. of $70K USD
- Duration: Typically, 12 to 18 months
Eligibility
The Trebek Initiative funds projects in four categories: (i) storytelling, (ii) research, (iii) conservation and (iv) education, which must overlap with at least one of the focus areas: (i) land, (ii) water, (iii) wildlife, (iv) culture and (v) history.
Project start dates must be at least six months after the submission deadline. Canadian residency is preferred but not required. Projects must be located in Canada. Applicants may submit a proposal as the project leader for only one project at a time. Unsuccessful applications are not permitted for resubmission.

- Submit an external application to the Trebek Initiative. Applications are submitted through the National Geographic website; applicants will be prompted to make an account.
