Description

The American Gastroenterological Association Research Foundation, is inviting applications for the R. Robert & Sally Funderburg Research Award in Gastric Cancer. This award is intended to support an established investigator pursuing innovative research that advances the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of gastric cancer.

Funded projects may span basic, translational, or clinical research, provided they are focused on gastric cancer and demonstrate strong scientific merit and potential impact. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, gastric mucosal cell biology, inflammation and Helicobacter pylori as precancerous drivers, genetic and molecular mechanisms of gastric carcinoma, epidemiology and etiology, and clinical approaches to diagnosis and treatment. The program also welcomes research that addresses evidence gaps identified in AGA clinical guidelines related to gastric cancer.

Funding Value

$100,000 USD total over 2 years, delivered as $50,000 per year.

One award is available in this competition cycle.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be established independent investigators in the field of gastric biology or gastric cancer research.

Investigators must hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree (e.g., MBBS, DO); PhD applicants must be seven or more years post‑degree.

Applicants must hold a full‑time faculty or equivalent position at an institution in North America (United States, Canada, or Mexico).

AGA membership is required at the time of application submission.
