Pedagogical Merit Review
Before animals can be used in teaching, the Canadian Council on Animal Care, which oversees animal use for research, teaching and testing, requires a review of pedagogical merit.
This is done through the Scientific Committee on Academic Planning, working with a reviewer knowledgeable about Replacement, Reduction and Refinement (3Rs).

Animals may only be used once the Animal Care Committee has received confirmation of pedagogical merit and has approved a corresponding Animal Use Protocol.
