Advancing Canada’s Defence Innovation: Mobilizing Talent and Partnerships

Delivered in collaboration with Canada’s Department of National Defence, the Mitacs Accelerate Defence and Security Call supports collaborative academic–industry research projects that advance Canadian sovereign capabilities in strategic areas identified under Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy.

Applications are open from June 1 to August 17, 2026.

The Carleton internal submission deadline is August 7th, 2026.

Through this competitive funding opportunity, Mitacs will support applied research and talent development in priority areas including aerospace, digital systems, quantum technologies, sensors, space, advanced manufacturing, and other defence and security related fields.

Join this webinar to learn more about the opportunity, including eligibility requirements, funding details, application timelines and how projects will be assessed. Participants will also gain insight into the strategic context behind the call and hear perspectives from leaders across Canada’s defence and innovation ecosystem.

The session will feature a panel discussion with senior leaders from Canadian universities and defence-focused organizations who will share insights on current innovation priorities, talent development and the value of academic–industry collaboration in addressing Canada’s defence and security needs. Attendees will gain practical perspectives on building impactful partnerships and identifying opportunities aligned with Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy.

This session is intended for researchers, research administrators, postsecondary institutions, businesses and organizations interested in developing defence, security or dual-use innovation projects.
