Research Achievement Awards and Research Awards — Seed Funding (CLOSED)
The Carleton University Research Achievement Awards (RAA) and Research Awards — Seed Funding (RASF) are administered by the Office of the Vice-President (Research, Innovation and International) (OVPRII) in accordance with the terms and conditions defined in the 2024-2027 CUASA Collective Agreement.
Research Achievement Awards
Article 41.2
- Purpose: recognize outstanding research achievements
- Eligibility:
- CUASA Faculty Members only
- Award recipients will be eligible to apply for the same award in the Fall term of the seventh (7th) year following the year in which the previous award was received.
- Annual number of awards: five
- Value: $15,000 CAD
- The $15,000.00 award may, at the option of the recipient, take the form of:
- a research grant upon the University being satisfied that the normal rules and requirements pertaining to approval of a research proposal have been satisfied; or,
- a portion of the award equal to the appropriate contract instructor stipend may be used to purchase up to a one (1) credit teaching release.
- Terminological clarification:
- “portion“: This term means that if there are residuals from the award after “purchasing” teaching release, the remaining funds out of the total $15k can then be put towards a research grant or bonus.
- “may“: This term means that approval from the Department and Faculty are required
- “purchase“: This term means that the award funding can be used to purchase 0.5 or 1.0 credit of teaching release.
- Terminological clarification:
- The $15,000.00 award may, at the option of the recipient, take the form of:

Research Award — Seed Funding
Article 41.3
- Purpose: enhance research productivity
- Eligibility:
- CUASA Faculty Members only
- Award recipients will be eligible to apply for the same award in the Fall term of the seventh (7th) year following the year in which the previous award was received.
- Annual number of awards: five
- Value: $15,000 CAD
- The $15,000.00 award may, at the option of the recipient, take the form of:
- a research grant upon the University being satisfied that the normal rules and requirements pertaining to approval of a research proposal have been satisfied; or,
- a $5,000.00 bonus less deductions required by law and a $10,000.00 research grant payable upon the University being satisfied that the normal rules and requirements pertaining to approval of a research proposal have been satisfied; or,
- a portion of the award equal to the appropriate contract instructor stipend may be used to purchase up to a one (1) credit teaching release.
- Terminological clarification:
- “portion“: This term means that if there are residuals from the award after “purchasing” teaching release, the remaining funds out of the total $15k can then be put towards a research grant or bonus.
- “may“: This term means that approval from the Department and Faculty are required
- “purchase“: This term means that the award funding can be used to purchase 0.5 or 1.0 credit of teaching release.
- If a 0.5 credit teaching release is purchased, the remaining funds out of the total $15k can then be put towards a research grant or a bonus.
- If a 1.0 credit teaching release is purchased, the Faculty Member would need to fund the difference, from their PER or Internally Restricted Research fund.
