SSHRC Exchange Grant: Knowledge Mobilization (ON HOLD)
Carleton’s Exchange Grant: Knowledge Mobilization supports social sciences and humanities researchers at any career stage with modest supplemental funding to contribute to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge beyond academia (i.e., with partners or participants from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors at the local, national or international levels).
General Details
Value and duration: Up to $7,000 for one year.
Please note that this program cannot be used to fund the traditional cost of research publications, such as books and journal articles; however, funding may be used to cover open-access publication costs up to a certain amount.
Deadline: None, continuous intake until funding expires.
Results: Approximately six to eight weeks after submission.

Eligibility
All full-time tenure or tenure-track faculty members (assistant, associate and full) at Carleton University are eligible to apply in the capacity of principal investigator (PI) or co-PI. Up to four team members may be added to the application. Anyone is eligible to apply as a team member and no CV is required for submission.
Eligible Expenses
- Knowledge mobilization (KM) activities (e.g., conferences, workshops, events, forums) and products (e.g., digital resources, databases, adaptation of texts, policy briefs);
- Stipends to students and postdoctoral fellows;
- Salaries for technical and professional staff;
- Speaker travel and accommodations;
- Materials, supplies and services, including technical services;
- Equipment and space rentals (e.g., for workshops, meetings); and
- Open access publication costs, to a maximum of $750.
If requesting funding for non-traditional publications, the overall application must address all of the evaluation criteria.
Ineligible Expenses
- Research activities (e.g., field work, clinical trials, data gathering);
- Traditional scholarly publication costs for books, journal articles, etc. (exception for open access publication costs);
- Teaching Release;
- Collection or preparation of material primarily intended for personal classroom needs or teaching purposes;
- Purchase of equipment;
- Technology transfer costs (e.g., patent filing); and
- Alcoholic beverages.
Application
Instructions:
- Fill out the application form based on the following guidelines.
- Save the application form with attachments in a single PDF file.
- Login to the cuResearch portal.
- Choose “apply new” from the top-right menu, then select “approval form” under Section A: CORIS Awards.
- Under the Project Info tab, enter your project title and save.
- Click “add new” under the Project Sponsor Info tab, then click “agency” and select “Carleton University — Carleton Office for Research Initiatives and Services.” Select the appropriate program and save. Note: You can search “CORIS” to find the agency.
- Upload your completed application package under the Attachments tab.
- Complete all the required fields under the Approval Form tab and save.
- Submit application. It will be routed for electronic approval by your Department Chair/School Director and Associate Dean, Research. Consult the Approvals tab to view the signing authority routing for your file.
Evaluation
Applications will be evaluated on the following:
- Clarity and presentation of the KM activity(ies) for adjudication by a multidisciplinary committee;
- Appropriateness of intended stakeholders/users and feasibility of engagement through the proposed activity(ies) (i.e., strategies to ensure engagement);
- Potential of the anticipated KM outcomes and impacts within and outside of academia;
- Potential for enhancing the visibility/profile of the researcher and Carleton University;
- Quality of the highly qualified personnel (HQP) mentoring and training; and
- Soundness of the budget (i.e., justification of expenses in relation to the proposed knowledge mobilization activity or product and leveraged funding).
