Carleton University is a research-intensive institution which thrives on its innovative and interdisciplinary model of investigation and knowledge transfer. With $70 million in sponsored research funding in 2010, $6.7M from the Province of Ontario alone, Carleton University has historically been competitive in its ability to attract the world’s leading investigators in everything from the digital economy to policy and public health.

Carleton appreciates that tough decisions need to be made in these difficult financial times, but strongly believes the impact of the research being undertaken at Carleton University will provide substantial collective benefits to all Ontarians over the long term, including increasing competitiveness and productivity, the creation of jobs with spin-off companies and industry partnerships, and the training of highly qualified personnel to bolster the Ontario workforce.  The cancellation of Rounds 6 and 7 of the Ontario Research Fund – Research Excellence (ORF-RE), along with inaugural Ontario Research Fund – Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities, presents a very real threat to the benefits the cancelled research projects might have offered.
