Carleton’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs presents Ambassador Matthias Brinkmann, The European Union and Canada: Interesting Times

The office of the Vice-President of Research and International and the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA), with the Ottawa Diplomatic Association, are pleased to present the Ambassador of the European Union, His Excellency Matthias Brinkmann as a part of the ongoing Ambassadors Speakers Series. This presentation is especially important during a time when the Canadian government is negotiating trade and investment enhancement with the E.U.

Brinkmann officially took up his duties as Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Canada on Oct. 2, 2009, when he presented his credentials to then Governor General, Michaëlle Jean at Government House in Ottawa.

Brinkmann comes to Ottawa from Brussels, where he was Head of Unit in the Directorate General for External Relations (DG RELEX), responsible for relations with non-E.U. countries in Western Europe.

Before joining the European Commission in Brussels in 1983, Brinkmann worked for a law firm in Hamburg, then for the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, before becoming a judge at the Administrative Court in Hamburg.
