Carleton University’s Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) is pleased to present a panel discussion entitled Gay in Russia. The talk will feature leading experts on Russia’s “anti-gay” bill passed by the Duma during summer 2013 which bans the distribution of information deemed to challenge traditional sexual relations or which propagandizes homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender people.

Panelists include:
- Andrea Chandler: Political Science professor Dr. Chandler specializes in social welfare in Russia, as well as gender and politics in post-communist societies.
- Jennifer Evans: Dr. Evans’ main research interests involve the history of sexuality in visual culture and the impact of social media and photography as agents of social meaning.
- Erica Fraser: Dr. Fraser is a historian specializing in gender and culture in the Soviet Union. She is currently working on a book manuscript on gender and Cold War culture entitled Armed Fantasy: Reinventing Soviet Masculinity after World War II.
- Melissa Haussman: Dr. Haussman is an expert on women’s access to power and representation in North American political institutions.
