Steven Cooke gave a presentation, Multidisciplinary Tracking Studies to Better Inform Fisheries Management, at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) 2014 Annual Meeting in Chicago on Feb. 14, 2014.

“I was excited to share this exciting work with the broader scientific community at AAAS,” said Cooke.  “We have faced difficult challenges working at the interface between science and management and we looked forward to sharing our successes and failures.  Doing research in support of conservation and management is rewarding and it only makes sense to ensure that what we do is relevant and is delivered to end users.”

In Canada and U.S. North Pacific, the Ocean Tracking Network is focused on Pacific salmon, given their ecological, cultural and socioeconomic importance. Cooke described how results from an integrated and interdisciplinary tracking program on Pacific salmon, involving extensive partnerships and combining tracking with genomics, physiology and environmental studies, is designed to meet the needs of stakeholders, including the management community.
