Explore Research. Solve Clues. Win Prizes. Stay Curious. That’s the tagline from the latest Research Matters initiative. The Virtual Scavenger Hunt, which kicks off today, is a month-long, provincewide contest that takes the public on a journey into research taking place at every publicly-assisted university in Ontario.

All 21 Ontario universities contributed to the Virtual Scavenger Hunt, providing source material for clues as well as Student Ambassadors (including two Carleton grad students who were finalists in the 2013 3 Minute Thesis competition) who will deliver those clues via video messages.

“We think students and the public will have a lot of fun with the Virtual Scavenger Hunt,” says Kim Matheson, vice-president, Research and International at Carleton. “It’s a great way to showcase some of the ground-breaking research happening at Carleton and other Ontario universities, research that will better the lives of all Canadians.”

For the month of February, participants can answer clues every day to be entered for daily prizes. There will be 21 clues in all – one from each participating university. Those intrepid solvers who get all 21 clues correct will be able to unlock a secret message that they can then submit to enter draws for prizes, including 21 general prizes of a Research Matters gift bag with clothes, puzzle books and more. In addition, university students will also be eligible for five grand prizes of $500 each.

This is fun way for you to learn about some of the intriguing university research happening across Ontario.
