Carleton University’s Banu Örmeci, professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has contributed a chapter to the newly released book Urban Water Challenges in the Americas. A Perspective from the Academies of Sciences. The Inter-American Network of Academies of Science (IANAS) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) published the book on March 22, UNESCO World Water Day.

The book presents a comprehensive country-by-country assessment of the status of urban water needs in the Americas and includes chapters from 20 countries.

Örmeci wrote the chapter on urban water challenges in Canada. The chapter provides a summary of the status of water resources, drinking water and wastewater treatment, waterborne diseases and the effect of climate change in Canada.
