art-mcdonaldCarleton University’s Faculty of Science will host Nobel Prize winner Art McDonald on Oct. 15, 2015. The esteemed Queen’s University researcher is the former director of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO).

Dr. McDonald worked closely with associates from Carleton’s Physics Department, including David Sinclair, who was the SNO deputy director and who was responsible for the construction and initial operation of SNOlab, which grew out of the observatory.

The research group at SNO produced ground-breaking work in detecting neutrinos in the lab two kilometres below the Earth’s surface, providing the first conclusive evidence that neutrinos have mass, something that was long doubted, and that they change their state.
