chemistry.magic.show21The Carleton University Office for Chemistry Outreach (CUOCO) is hosting its ninth annual Chemistry Magic Show and Activity Centre on Feb. 27, 2016.

The magic show is filled with amazing glow-in-the-dark substances, fantastic colour changes, spontaneous combustion reactions and more. Families can get their hands dirty at the Activity Centre while making slime, miniature Olympic medals and ice cream with liquid nitrogen. They can also learn about pleasant and not-so-pleasant smells, the chemistry of wine and chocolate and the amazing fluorescent and phosphorescent properties of minerals.

The Magic Show

When: Saturday, Feb. 27, 2015. Two shows at 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Where: River Building, Room 2200 (2nd floor), Carleton University

Note: Seating is limited, so please arrive early. If the theatre is full, classrooms nearby will be available where attendees can watch the show on large screens.

Tickets: Tickets (to guarantee you a seat in the theatre for the magic show) will be handed out on a first-come-first-served basis outside the Activity Centre on the day of the event.

Hands-on Activity Centre

Where: Steacie Building, The Superlab (2nd floor)
When: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed during magic shows).

Cost: Free. Donations welcome – cash and non-perishable food for the Ottawa Food Bank (suggested donation is $3 or one or two food items per person), as well as donations to fund future activities.

Transportation: Parking is available on campus (click here for a campus map) in lots P2, P9 and P16 (as well as other nearby locations on campus) for a flat fee of $4 for the day. Carleton is also accessible via OC Transpo routes 4, 7, and 104 (note that route 111 does not come to Carleton on weekends) and the O-Train Trillium Line.
